Audit and Accreditation

Audit and accreditation is important for all digital media including websites, intranets, extranets, web apps, mobile apps both native and web, and gaming.

Our audit and accreditation is a trusted and respected service, assessing your product in line with the WCAG 2.0, and 2.1 AA level of accessibility.

A choice of levels

We offer the DAC Accreditation at two levels:

  • Accessible AA (government recommended compliance level)
  • Gold AAa (almost AAA standard, reflecting the views of DAC testing team)

Audit stages

There are 3 stages involved in our audit:

  1. Automated testing using testing software
  2. Manual technical auditing by our experts
  3. User Testing - DAC’s experienced team of user testers spend more than 70 hours testing your site using a variety of assistive technologies such as screen readers, magnification, voice activated, switch access, keyboard only and pointing devices

Get involved and learn

We test your products in our modern test facility in Llandarcy near Swansea.

You are encouraged to spend a day with our testers and get involved during the testing of your site. Sit with each tester while they show you why it can be difficult to use a non-accessible website.

By seeing first-hand what problems our testers encounter, you will gain a much better understanding of how to factor-in accessibility at each stage of the design, and how to spot check your live website for accessibility issues.

We will also talk to you about free tools to help you.

If you don’t have time to visit, we can bring the testing to you via web cams and/or video conferencing. We can also video and caption the testing and provide a text transcript for a small fee. You may want to put the video onto your intranet as a training aid for your content authors.

The report

All test results are collated, cross checked and then compiled into an easy-to-understand report together with screenshots of any issues, our user tester’s and technical auditor’s comments, and recommendations for fixes. We prioritise any issues found:

  • A – Needs urgent attention
  • AA – Action required
  • AAA – Required if you want AAA higher accreditation

We will talk you through the report, via a conference call or presentation, and answer any questions you may have. We also provide suggestions for cost effective solutions for your organisation.

Over the next four months, working alongside you, we help you make changes to issues identified in the report, or find suitable alternatives, and once complete we retest. You may use as much or as little of this time as you need.

Providing all is in order at the retest, your site will be awarded our trusted accreditation badge and a certificate which is valid for 12 months, after which we will invite you to re-accredit.

Your Accreditation

Once accredited, you can place a Digital Accessibility Centre accreditation badge on your site and link it to your validation certificate. All your site visitors will be aware that you have taken the time and made the effort to ensure they have a pleasant experience on your site.
